Product Description - Black Pagoda
Basket vines, so named because they are best displayed in hanging containers, are gesneriads with gracefully trailing stems 2 to 3 feet long, tipped with 2 to 4 inch tubular flowers. A. lobbianus has waxy, yellow-throated scarlet flowers with deep purple, leaf like outer petals (calyces); the flowers of A. pulcher have green calyces. Both bloom in spring, producing buds that resemble lipsticks. A. speciosus bears waxy, scarlet-tipped orange flowers in winter and spring. An excellent hybrid, 'Black Pagoda', provides waxy, brown-specked yellow and green flowers continuously through the year; it has mottled green and red foliage.Plant Care
Basket-vines grow best in at least four hours of direct morning sunlight a day in winter and bright indirect or curtain-filtered sunlight the rest of the year. Night temperatures of 65 to 70 degrees and day temperatures of 75 degrees or higher are ideal. Pot in a mixture of 2 parts peat moss to 1 part packaged potting soil and 1 part sharp sand or perlite. Keep the mix moist and fertilize monthly. After the plants flower, cut the stems back to a height of about 6 inches to produce new growth. Propagate from stem cuttings, preferably in spring. They are generally pest free.0 Comment
